Mr. President, don’t appease the bullies

A good portion of last week’s news cycle focused on the rise of school bullies. Tragically, two young girls, including a Suffolk County teen, took their own lives after being pushed to the edge by bullies.

My heart goes out to these families. It is unimaginable that this type of violence is taking place in our schools and on the Internet.

The threats don’t end there. Someone else in our country is being bullied, and, unfortunately, that person is our president. Over the past week, President Obama made two serious decisions concerning our national security. They should cause great concern because they are policies that will undoubtedly heighten our risk of another terrorist attack.

On April 8, Obama and Russian President Dmitri Medvedev signed an arms control treaty to shrink both nations’ nuclear arsenals. Specifically, the number of missiles, submarines and bombers will be reduced by half, and the stockpile of strategic nuclear warheads will be cut.

The two presidents claimed that this is the first step to a world free from nuclear weapons, but in essence, Obama is letting other nations know that if they choose to attack the U.S. with biological or chemical weapons, we will not retaliate with nuclear weapons. Supposedly, announcing that we will not retaliate with a nuclear strike, even if we are attacked with chemical or biological weapons, will induce rogue nations like Iran and North Korea to forgo their acquisition of nuclear weapon systems. What utterly ridiculous logic.

The president went even further in announcing that our national security documents will be rewritten to exclude terms like “jihadist” and “Islamic extremism.” What a joke! Imagine if President Roosevelt had told the public not to call the murderous German regime during World War II Nazis.

In response, our bulldog congressman, Peter King, said, “The president’s dream of a worldwide liberal utopia is going to undermine the security of the United States.” This utopia must be exactly what the president had in mind when he decided to rewrite our national security documents.
