GUEST RESPONSE: REP. CAROLYN McCARTHY (D-NY4)

Response to presidential speech on Middle East, Africa

Posted

Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY4) wrote to Pres. Barack Obama two weeks ago, calling on him to stop aid to the Palestinian Authority for as long as it maintains its new partnership with the Hamas terrorist organization. Last week, McCarthy issued a response to the president’s speech on the Middle East and North Africa:

“We all want a lasting and permanent peace in the Middle East, but rolling back the clock to 1967 and taking away land from Israel flies in the face of logic and our interests in the region, which are dependent upon a robust and unwavering support for Israel. Just last week, I called upon President Obama to immediately cut aid to the Palestinian Authority until it broke ties with Hamas, a terrorist organization that is opposed to peace, the state of Israel and our interests. I think it’s irresponsible of the President to ask our most reliable and important ally in the region to cede territories while ignoring increasingly dangerous threats to its security.
