Safety Patrol partners up with young Elmont elementary students

Students in pre-K through second grade receive a helpful escort to class in the morning and during pickup in the afternoon from Elmont’s Stewart Manor School Safety Patrol.

The Safety Patrol members are sixth graders who applied for the patrol in fifth grade and received teacher recommendations.

Over the summer, students attended an orientation session where they were walked through the patrol procedures. Tara Savage, assistant principal, said that the sixth graders are eager and ready to assist their younger peers at school.

“It is so rewarding to see the relationships that are built during the time that they spend together,” Savage said. “Safety Patrol also instills responsibility and problem-solving for our students that will benefit them long after they leave the Stewart Manor School.”
