Fire tears through south Merrick home

Posted

A fast-moving blaze ripped through the upper floor of a raised-ranch home at the corner of North Gate and Covered Bridge Road in south Merrick around 5:15 p.m. on June 16.

Forty firefighters, perhaps more, could be seen at the home, including volunteers from the Merrick, Freeport, North Merrick and North Bellmore departments.

Two dozen or so neighbors and onlookers gathered on the sidewalks along Covered Bridge Road, which was filled with 10 fire engines and trucks, along with ambulances.

It was unclear at press time how the fire might have started, and whether there were any injuries.

More to follow.
