Nassau County Minority Leader Kevan Abrahams will not seek re-election

Nassau County Minority Leader, Kevan Abrahams, a resident of Freeport, saidn on April 14 he will not seek re-election after a tenure of 20 years in the Legislature. His two-year term will come to a close on Dec. 31.

Abrahams, a Democrat, has made a lasting impact during his time in office. Throughout his career, he has tirelessly advocated for change and betterment for his constituency. He expressed his gratitude to his colleagues for their unwavering support and to his constituents for the privilege of serving them for over two decades.

Despite his decision not to seek re-election, Abrahams will maintain his full-time position as director for Strategic Planning and Regulatory Process at Northwell Health, a role he has perefromed for the past 23 years.

“After 22 years of serving the First Legislative District and the residents of Nassau County, I have decided to not seek re-election,” said Abrahams in a statement released on April 14. “It has been a great privilege and an honor to serve my constituency and advocate for change. I am grateful to all my colleagues for their support throughout the years and to my constituents for allowing me to continue to represent them for over two decades.”
