The melodies and vibrant cultural traditions of the Hispanic community took center stage at Caroline G. Atkinson School, within the Freeport School District, in a spirited celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. The auditorium resonated with the lively tunes and performances that paid tribute to the rich tapestry of Hispanic heritage.

The event, held in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, featured a captivating program masterfully narrated by students Joaquin Rodriguez and Cassandra Turcios. Their eloquent commentary guided the audience through a mesmerizing journey of music, dance, and tradition.

“It was a wonderful experience seeing our students using their musical and performance talents to share their pride in their heritage and musical traditions,” Superintendent of Schools, Kishore Kuncham said.

Students from various grade levels enthralled the spectators with their exquisite renditions of age-old songs, traditional dances, and games hailing from diverse Hispanic regions, including Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and more. Among the highlights of the evening were performances of “Rompas Mi Corazon,” a lively Mexican line dance, “Los Pollitos,” a soulful Chilean song, “A La Lata,” a spirited Colombian chant and game, and “Dia De Los Muertos,” a captivating Mexican folk song and dance.

The event served as a poignant reminder of the importance of embracing and celebrating the rich cultural heritage that Hispanic students and their families bring to the Freeport School District.
