Lynbrook firefighters bring holidays to wounded warriors

Members and chiefs of the Lynbrook Fire Department recently traveled to Maryland, Virginia and North Carolina to spread Christmas cheer to wounded warriors as part of Nassau County Firefighters Operation Wounded Warrior.

Many of the members went to Fort Belvoir, in Virginia, to spend time with those who were wounded while serving their country. The group, including Mayor Alan Beach, gathered around the Wounded Warrior Battalion Christmas tree and spent time with the soldiers and their families.

Fort Belvoir has 240 wounded U.S. Army soldiers and many U.S. Marines receiving treatment and rehabilitation for their war wounds. A group of firefighters also visited hurt soldiers in Bethesda, Md., while others went to Camp Lejeune and Fort Bragg in North Carolina.

This marked the 15th year that Nassau firefighters have traveled south to bring Christmas to wounded warriors in hospitals and rehabilitation centers along the East Coast.
