Little league 5K fundraiser a hit

A coalition of Little Leagues from the South Shore communities ravaged by Hurricane Sandy banded together to raise funds to offset the losses absorbed by the leagues due to the storm. Leagues from Long Beach, Island Park, Oceanside, East Rockaway, Freeport, Rockville Centre, and Lynbrook sponsored a 5K run/walk, held on March 9, 2013. Collectively, the affected leagues experienced losses of equipment and resources in excess of $250,000.00. Rockville Centre and Lynbrook Little Leagues volunteered manpower and financial aid to help their brother leagues. Oceanside/Island Park Rotary sponsored the medals for the kids fun run and many businesses including the Brooklyn Cyclones provided the much needed assistance and support. The cooperation from Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray and Senior Town Councilman Anthony Santino helped make this fundraiser a huge success.
