Island Park Fire Department puts out garbage truck fire

On July 25, the Island Park Fire Department responded to a call for a fire in the back of a garbage truck.

The call came from in front of 77 Waterford Road in Island Park. The sanitation department has a policy to dump the garbage into the street in case of fire to stop it from destroying the truck. The IPFD was already nearby on a rescue call when the call came in about the fire.

It took approximately a half hour to extinguish the fire and clean up the mess.
