A new playground for Hegarty School

A cooperative effort by the Kiwanis Foundation, Kiwanis International, the Island Park Kiwanis Club, the Barnum Woods, Cantiague, Gardner’s Avenue, Searingtown elementary schools, Great Middle School, and MacArthur High school will mean a brand new playground for Island Park’s Francis X. Hegarty elementary school.

After fund raising by the schools, and the efforts of Kiwanis Foundation President and Island Park resident David Rothman, plus contributions from the Island Park Kiwanis Club, enough money was raised to pay for the new addition. At groundbreaking ceremonies April 25, Superintendent of Schools Rosmarie Bovino thanks everyone for their efforts, and told those assembled the playground would be opened to the public after school and on weekends.

The facility will be opened in September.
