Dangerous LNG

The Island Park Civic Association learned more about the proposed Port Ambrose Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) deep-water port where tankers would transfer LNG to or from the station, at its Mar. 10 meeting. Opponents claim the port, to be located off Long Beach, would be a threat to the environment, a target for terrorism, could be expanded for export, and will only have 6 full time jobs.

Two presenters, George Povall of All Our Energy, and Patrick Robbins the communications and development coordinator for Sane Energy Project said that many state and county legislators have written to Governor Cuomo urging him to stop the project.

The Civic board discussed the “Hug a Bunny” event, to be held Mar. 27, at Miami Nights restaurant, 4547 Austin Boulevard, Island Park, from 7-10 p.m. For $10 have a drink and some food, and bring a stuffed bunny. The bunnies will be donated to the pediatric ward at South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside. For more information call (516) 897-7653 or (516) 431-8275.

Mark Taglianetti of the Island Park Chamber of Commerce spoke about taking over the Presidency, and plans the Chamber is making for the year.

President Anna D’Amaro gave out Big Max pumpkin seedlings, as part of a contest the Civic will be holding in October called the Island Park Great Pumpkin Affair. More seedlings might be available.
