Island Park Fire Department hosts fundraiser for Ed Schaefer

On Sept. 30, the Island Park Fire Department hosted a 10-13 benefit for one of its members, Ed Schaefer, who is currently battling cancer.
The name comes from the police code for an officer in need of assistance, since Schaefer is a retired NYPD officer.
In addition to food and drinks at the fire house, those who came out were able to bid on donated sports memorabilia, certificates for meals at local restaurants, participate in a 50/50 raffle and more.
All of the money raised is going to Schaefer to help pay for his expenses, since his illness has stopped him from working for the past few months.
