License mold removers

Governor Andrew Cuomo signed a bill sponsored by State Assemblyman Todd Kaminsky that requires mold-removal specialists to be licensed. The new law strengthens the existing enforcement of health codes, requiring that a trained and licensed mold remover do mold eradication.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, many people claiming to be mold specialists, failed to eradicate mold, posing a health risk to families. With this law now in place, mold inspection and removal will be handled more professionallly.

“Many Superstorm Sandy victims unfortunately found that those who claimed to fix their mold problem were actually unqualified scammers who took their money and left their homes in dangerous condition,” said Kaminsky. “Thanks to this bill such an occurrence will not happen again. This bill establishes that those who are given licenses for mold inspection and remediation will be duly qualified to perform those tasks.”

Mold can create a range of aliments, including breathing issues, headaches and skin irritation.
