Oceanside and Island Park on flood watch

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced a travel ban on all local and state roads in New York City, state roads on Long Island, and the Port Authority’s trans-Hudson crossings, effective at 2:30 p.m. today. Additionally, the MTA will begin suspending service at 4:00 p.m. on the LIRR, Metro-North Railroad, Staten Island Railway, and above-ground subway lines in New York City. All bus services in New York City remain suspended until further notice.

Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano today issued the following statement:

“At 10:30 a.m. today, I signed an Executive Order declaring a State of Emergency in Nassau County. This declaration was ordered under an abundance of caution with respect to the forecast flooding and blizzard conditions.”

Our plowing operation commences after road salting. Our priority is to open the main roads to provide safe access for emergency vehicles and to maintain traffic flow. Crews will be out working throughout a storm until all streets are cleared.

If you have a fire hydrant near your home PLEASE clear 3 feet in all directions around it, this simple act can make all the difference in the world in the event of a fire. Do not drive into flooded areas or enter flooded basements and ALWAYS stay clear of down power lines.

Accumulations of seven to 12 inches are expected, snowfall will turn wet Saturday afternoon. Winds will be sustained at 22-32 MPH with gusts to 45 MPH and will continue through Sunday morning.
