Oceanside and Island Park, along with the rest of Long Island, were hit with heavy snowfall and high winds on Saturday morning. Snow is expected to accumulate to between 8 and 11 inches with wind gusting at 45 mph. A winter storm warning from the National Weather Service is in effect until 7 p.m. Saturday night.

Gov. Kathy Hochul declared a state of emergency that began at 8 p.m. on Friday. The Long Island Railroad has been shut down and could remain out of service until Monday morning, according to MTA officials.

Town of Hempstead Supervisor Don Clavin said DPW crews are ready to plow the town’s 1,200 miles of roadway. “This winter storm is serious, and we advise residents to try and stay home and refrain from driving as our region gets hit with heavy snow and strong winds,” Clavin said.

The Oceanside Library, among many other establishments in both Oceanside and Island Park, will be closed on Saturday.

The Village of Island Park announced on its Facebook page that there has yet to be any flooding reported from residents as of this morning. Mayor Michael McGinty has encouraged seniors to call his cell phone at 516-815-5326 should they need assistance during the storm.
