Oceanside Rotary gives the gift of life

Translator David Sheynberg, an Oceanside High School Junior, spent time with surgery recipient Alina Tzukanova at the Alias Smith and Jones luncheon sponsored by the Oceanside Rotary Club.

Once again, Elliot Liebner, president of the Oceanside Rotary club, hosted a ‘Gift Of Life’ child — Alina Tsucanova, a 7-year-old girl who came from Russia with a hole in her heart. She was accompanied by

her grandmother, Tattina Korobova.

Liebner hosted the grandmother and child before, during and after her successful surgery at St. Francis Hospital, performed by Dr. Sean Levchuck.

On Oct. 20 the Oceanside Rotary Club helped Alina celebrate her successful surgery and her upcoming eighth birthday with a party at Alias Smith & Jones, complete with a Carvel birthday cake and presents sent to her from Disney.

She reacted like a healthy nearly 8-year-old, smiling from ear to ear. Knowing that she was healthy also made the Rotarians smile from ear to ear.
