Heavy rain prompted the National Weather Service to issue a flood watch for Nassau County on Monday, March 29, and flood and high surf advisories remained in effect on Tuesday, March 30, although forecasters expected the worst of the storm to be through by Tuesday night.

Up to six inches of rain are expected to fall by Wednesday morning, but forecasters expect the weather to clear up considerably by the end of the week, with sunny skies and temperatures in the mid-60s.

South Shore residents have had their fair share of stormy weather this season. A powerful nor'easter blew through the area March 13 and 14, taking down trees and power lines and knocking out power for thousands of Long Island Power Authority customers -- in some cases, for several days.

The latest storm, while less severe, still caused a messy commute for many South Shore residents, as they contended with wet weather and flooded roads Monday and Tuesday.
