WHHS honors athletes

West Hempstead High School honored the boys’ varsity and junior varsity students at an awards ceremony on June 9 at Pompei restaurant in West Hempstead. The coaches recognized the students for their individual and team achievements.

Individual awards were given out to teams for most valuable players, most improved players and coach’s awards. Students were recognized for receiving post-season honors at the county level.

The boy’s varsity tennis team, which made playoffs for the first time in 10 years, was named a scholar athlete team by the New York State High Athletic Association. The boy’s varsity basketball team, which made the playoffs for the 10th year in a row, was also honored, as well as the boy’s varsity volleyball team, which made it to the second round of the playoffs this year.
