Long Beach resident Ann Giordano, loving daughter, mother, wife, educator, community activist, world traveler, and champion of poor and working class people throughout the country, passed away on April 27. She was 81.

Giordano’s many accomplishments include founding the Girl Scouts at St. Francis of Paola Church in Brooklyn, where she was also a leader for many years. She also successfully spearheaded an effort to reopen the Leonard Street library in New York City, and was part of an organization that opened the Swinging ’60s Senior/Small World Day Care centers in Brooklyn, and developed and ran the college program at NCNW and the Adult Education Center at Eastern District High School.

A big proponent of education, Giordano completed her own college degree in her 40s while working full time and caring for her family. Ann Giordano led a life of service to our community and her family. She will be warmly remembered and missed by many whose lives she touched.
