Hundreds of people came to the Long Beach boardwalk on Feb. 4 to run in the city’s annual Snowflake Race. Hosted by the Parks and Recreation Department, the race is held in memory of Joseph Farrell.

More than 600 runners registered to participate and braved the cold weather. The overall male first-place winner Nacho Hernandez, 23, of Bayshore, finished with a time of 19 minutes and 57 seconds, while overall female first-place winner Jen Dagan, 32, of Centereach, finished with 23:33.

The city was well represented by the overall Long Beach resident winners, who were Mitchell Ostrow, who finished with a time of 23:16, and Lauren Darienzo, who finished with a time of 27:58.

“The Long Beach Recreation Department would like to thank all of the participants who came and commend them all on a job well done,” Assistant Superintendent of the Parks and Recreation Department Paul Ferrante said.

“Also a big thank you to our sponsor, the Joseph Farrell Foundation, for helping contribute to the success of the race, and the Public Works Department, Police Department, and Fire Department for providing all of the runners with safe running conditions.”

The next scheduled race — the City Manager’s Race to Remember — will be held on May 28.
