This election is too important for you to sit at home

They have developed a bipartisan working relationship that has been the key to the county’s receiving billions of dollars in aid. This relationship has been fruitful for Nassau residents, as the two traveled to Washington and fought for the billions of dollars that have trickled down to the communities impacted by Sandy.

I urge you to ask yourself, on this the anniversary of the storm, as we continue to rebuild and recover: Which team do you want on your side?

Put politics aside for a minute. (I will, too.) I will never forget last Oct. 29. Time has passed, but wounds are still unhealed. Many facets of life changed drastically that day. Hospitals were forced to close down. Home values, especially in heavily affected areas, dropped significantly. And of course, we can’t forget that due to its poor preparation and response, the Long Island Power Authority was replaced as Long Island’s power supplier.

This was all coupled with an already weak economy. But as we rebuild, we have grown, and we have much to look forward to. Those who were displaced have not been forgotten.

Our county executive has worked tirelessly, in both Albany and Washington, to ensure that Long Island receives the funding necessary to rebuild. He has not stopped. On Oct. 24, state officials announced that more than $2 billion would be delivered to New York state from the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development to fund recovery efforts for the homeowners and businesses that are still affected.

Friends, this election is too important to sit out. I have yet to meet someone who doesn’t like Ed Mangano. Nassau County residents see him as a hard worker who always keeps his commitment to taxpayers.

Mangano proved himself a true leader during Hurricane Sandy. Follow in his lead and put politics aside. There is no one else I would rather have leading this county during tough times than Mangano, a man who truly cares about the people of Nassau County.

Don’t forget to vote!
