Long Island Mozart Festival
Those stirring sounds of Mozart fill the air at Old Westbury Gardens, the site of the annual festival. This colorful venue for music-making includes garden tours and much more at the family-friendly festival, designed to appeal to all ages. Mainstage concerts will feature the renowned Russian-born pianist Olga Vinokur performing Mozart’s Piano Quartet in G minor and Piano Concerto in A Major, K 414 with members of the Chamber Players International Orchestra; also pianist Philip Edward Fisher performs Mozart’s Piano Quartet in Eb Major and Piano Concerto in F Major, K 459. Other activities include a Mozart for Children program, with storytelling, games and puppetry.

Celebrating Memorial Day
Besides Jones Beach, there’s also some action at Eisenhower Park during the holiday weekend. The park’s Kite Field once again serves as a landing area for U.S. Navy and Marine Corps squadrons as part of the region’s Fleet Week 2014 activities. It begins, at 10 a.m., when a combined team of members from the U.S. Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal team and Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron Five present a mine countermeasures demonstration. They’ll show how a five-member team can be inserted via a MH-60S helicopter into an area too dangerous for a ship to navigate or an aircraft to land, while another MH-60S provides top-cover. At noon, U.S. Marines helicopters conduct an area sweep and transport a Marine raid force to the landing zone in an assault demonstration.
