Rec Dept. holds annual Snow Flake Race on boardwalk
With temperatures in the 30s, more than 500 runners hit the Long Beach boardwalk for the 4-mile annual Snow Flake Race on Sunday. Shaun McGrath of Lynbrook and Katie Dipietro of Floral Park as the overall finishers, and the first finishers from Long Beach were Andrew Smith and Kristie Timmer. McGrath crossed the finish line with a time of 22:05, while Dipietro came in at 25:33.
The Long Beach Recreation Department stages the race each year, and Long Beach Catholic School and Sugo Cafe sponsored this year’s race. All the runners were treated to coffee from Starbucks and raffle prizes from local merchants
The next race of the year will be the 10-Mile City Manager’s Trophy, run which will be held on May 30 at 8:00 a.m. For more information on any Recreation Programs visit www.longbeachny.org or call 431-3890.
