After 12 years at the same Spruce Street location in Cedarhurst, AHC Appliance has moved to larger quarters on Central Avenue. In appreciation of their clientele, who has helped them grow their business, owners of AHC now feature an even more spacious, easier to view showroom.

While catering to the needs of the Orthodox community is certainly their specialty, the owners of AHC Appliance offer something for everyone. Jay and Sandy combine their intricate understanding of the Jewish laws with an in-depth familiarity of the products they sell. Thus, they can further help customers comply with the Sabbath and holiday traditions.

The appliance and electronics business was founded by Jay’s father, who opened a store in Manhattan in 1967. Jay and his wife, Sandy, who have been residents of the Five Towns for more than 25 years, opened AHC Appliance in 1998 in Cedarhurst.

Taking over two stores, they were able to build a sizeable showroom. As members of a national buying co-op group (which Jay’s father helped start), they remain competitive, price-wise, with the larger appliance stores.

AHC Appliance carries all major brands of appliances and electronics. In addition to the standard home appliances, like refrigerators, ovens, dishwashers, stovetops, washers, and dryers, they offer entertainment items like LED, LCD and plasma TVs, beverage centers and wine coolers. Their outside kitchens can include items like barbecue systems, outdoor refrigerators, warming drawers, ice makers and more.

These are specifically approved for outdoor use. Only professional installers are used.

In addition to offering the personalized service of a "Mom and Pop" type of store, Sandy and Jay share a range of knowledge that is quite unique. Many of the appliances they sell are Star-K certified, featuring special “Sabbath Modes" to help people comply with Jewish laws (such as not opening an oven door or turning on a motor on the Sabbath). But not every appliance with these features is problem-free in certain situations. Jay and Sandy know which ones have the over-ride or bypass features that might be needed to avoid specific issues.

Their intricate knowledge of products, manufacturers, and that extra step of personalized help extends to the mainstream consumer as well. For example, if a person is elderly, or has a bad back, they know which appliances to recommend. “We can customize the choice of appliances to the consumer, and work within different budgets. Most importantly, we listen to people’s needs,” said Sandy.

AHC Appliance also handles landlord business for multi-family homes and apartment building laundry rooms. They offer extended warrantees at a discount. The showroom is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (and until 6 p.m. during summer), and Sunday noon to 5 p.m. AHC Appliance is closed on Saturday.
