Creating hope in Long Beach

Unsound surf shop hosted its 4th annual Surf Art Show last Saturday, an event that marked the shop’s re-grand opening and also featured music, modern art and delicious local food.

Residents flocked to the event, held at Unsound from 4 to 9 p.m., to check out ocean and surf-related art on display throughout the shop, with some placing bids on pieces of art during a silent auction and others donating to local organizations such as the United Way of Long Island, The Long Beach Christmas Angel and the Tommy Brull Foundation, organizations that have been helping Long Beach families and businesses get back on their feet in the aftermath of the storm.

While there, many enjoyed music by The Midnight Snacks, and food from the Swingbellys food truck. Residents also created their own art, with “Stars of Hope” — a unique art project to bring hope and inspiration to children of disaster stricken communities as well as to their families, friends and neighbors — providing hundreds of stars for children and adults to paint from 4 to 7 p.m. that will be spread throughout the community by Project 11561 and the Long Beach Surfer’s Association. The event also included an impressive community art project that took place on the outside wall of Unsound.
