Firefighters quickly extinguished a basement fire on East Pine Street early Monday morning.

Long Beach Fire Department Chief Antonio Cuevas said that a call came in around 7:15 a.m. reporting a house fire at 142 E. Pine St. Upon arrival, firefighters observed smoke coming from the first and second floors. They evacuated the residents of the home, and after a quick search, found that the source of the fire was in the basement.

The fire was extinguished in about 15 minutes, Cuevas said, and was halted before causing serious damage to the home. The Island Park and Lawrence-Cedarhurst fire departments responded to the scene, while other neighboring districts remained on standby to cover the district. None of the occupants of the house were injured, and the fire remains under investigation by the Nassau County Fire Marshal.

“With the fast response time and quick hand line deployment, the fire department kept the fire contained to the basement with minimal damage,” Cuevas said.
