Freaky 5K is set for Oct. 25

The John Theissen Children’s Foundation will hold its annual Freaky 5K run on Sunday, Oct. 25. The race starts and ends behind the foundation’s Family Fun Center at 1881 Wantagh Ave.
Race time is 8:30 a.m., and a quarter-mile Trick-or-Treat Trot for children 10 and under precedes that at 8 a.m. All participants are encouraged to run in costume.
Advance registration, for runners who sign up by Oct. 19, is $20, and the day-of-race fee is $25. The cost for the children’s trot is $7. All children will receive a medal and goody bag, and the first 700 registrants for the 5K receive long-sleeve running shirts.
Prizes are $250 for the top male and female finishers, $200 for second place and $150 for third place. There are $100 bonuses for the top male runner under 16 minutes and the top female runner under 18 minutes. Medals will also be given out to the top five finishers in each age group, from 13 and under, up to 80 and older.
