Long Beachers got their Irish on at Saturday’s 20th Annual Saint Brenden the Navigator Division 17 Irish Day Parade, hosted by the Long Beach Division of the Ancient Order of Hibernians.

The day began with a 9 a.m. Mass at Sacred Heart Church in Island Park, after which some 50 groups, including pipe bands, local fire departments, the Nassau County Police Department’s mounted unit and various civic groups, assembled on Washington Boulevard at West Park Avenue around 11:30 p.m. and began marching to Connecticut Avenue in the West End at noon.

Leading the way as grand marshals were Peter Meyers and Kevin McCarthy, founders of the Long Beach Polar Bear Club’s annual ocean plunge on Super Bowl Sunday.

Following the parade and throughout the day, West Beech Street was closed to traffic and lined with many street vendors selling Irish-themed and other merchandise, as well as rides for the whole family.
