The Long Beach Public School District announced last week a new coordinator of school counseling. The district announced the coordinator as Jaclyn McMahon.

McMahon has been a school counselor at Long Beach High School since 2010.

In her new role, she will oversee and ensure students in grades K-12 receive the appropriate school counseling services. These include developmental programs, career counseling, personal counseling, academic counseling and post-secondary planning.

“I am looking forward to my new role and responsibilities and am eager to help lead such a dynamic and dedicated group of counselors,” McMahon said.

Prior to her start at Long Beach High School, McMahon was a transfer admissions counselor at New York Institute of Technology. As a member of the Long Beach school community, she has been a middle school lacrosse coach, club advisor, SAT test coordinator and alumni coordinator.

McMahon earned a bachelor's in sociology from Quinnipiac University, a master’s in education from Hunter College and an advanced graduate certificate in educational leadership from Stony Brook University.

Jaclyn “McMahon has demonstrated exceptional leadership skills since she joined the Long Beach family in 2010,” said Long Beach Superintendent of Schools Dr. Jennifer Gallagher. “Her expertise will promote successful outcomes for Long Beach students.”
