Long Beach police are investigating a shooting after a man was admitted to Long Beach Medical Center on Monday with a gunshot wound.

Sgt. Eric Cregeen, a spokesman for the Police Department, said that detectives are investigating the incident that occurred on Labor Day.

“We did have a gunshot victim who was admitted to the hospital,” Cregeen said. “It’s an active investigation. We are investigating after a male victim was admitted to Long Beach Medical Center with a gunshot wound.”

Cregeen said the shooting “may or may not have” occurred in Long Beach. He would not say where or at what time the incident took place. He said that the department is not releasing any further details about the incident because it could compromise the investigation.

It would be the second shooting to occur in Long Beach since May, when police arrested a Long Beach teenager and charged him with attempted murder after he allegedly shot a 17-year-old during an altercation at the LIRR station.
