Near-miss on the Loop Parkway

Posted

A vehicle veered off of the Loop Parkway Bridge near Lido Boulevard on Wednesday around 5 p.m., stopping just feet from the water and causing traffic delays during the evening commute as the scene was cleared. The vehicle had been traveling in the southbound lane, according to Point Lookout-Lido Fire Department Chief Brian Guerin.

The PLLFD responded to the call along with Nassau County and State Police. Guerin said that the fire department responded to check for injuries, confirm there was no fire at the scene and that the vehicle was not in the water.

The vehicle’s driver, a male, was its only occupant at the time of the accident and was not treated for any injuries, said Guerin. He described the vehicle as a Chevy Impala. The parkway was cleared later that night.

The cause of the accident has not been determined.
