Long Beach police arrested a 46-year-old Neptune Boulevard resident last week and charged her with attempted murder after she allegedly pushed her elderly mother down a flight of stairs.

The incident occurred on Oct. 9, when police said that Marlene Maggiore, who resides at 217 Neptune Blvd., became involved in a dispute with her 78-year-old mother. Police responded to the scene after receiving an emergency call at 5:19 p.m. for a family dispute.

“When we arrived, we learned that the mother had been pushed down a flight of stairs by the daughter,” said Sgt. Eric Cregeen, a spokesman for the Police Department.

Cregeen said that the push was intentional and that Maggiore had attempted to kill her mother. He said the victim sustained three broken ribs, a shoulder injury and lacerations and swelling to the back of her head when she tumbled down what was described as a “steep” staircase. She was transported to Long Beach Medical Center by the Long Beach Fire Department, and her injuries are not believed to be life threatening. No update on her condition was provided.

Cregeen said that Maggiore lives at the home with her parents. He said that Maggiore’s father had told police what had happened, but said that is was unclear what caused the incident. Cregeen said that were no previous reports of domestic disputes at the home.

Maggiore was charged with second-degree attempted murder and was arraigned at Long Beach City Court. The case has been transferred to Nassau County Criminal Court.
