Rec holds Fabulous 4th race

The Long Beach Recreation Department held it’s annual Fabulous 4th of July Race in Memory of Sean Ryan last week on the boardwalk. The event consisted of a 4K run at 8:30 a.m. after a 1K children’s run at 8 a.m.

The race is dedicated to Sgt. Sean Ryan, an outstanding member of the Long Beach community who always led by example, officials said. Over 350 runners participated in this event. The overall winners were Matthew McGovern and Maggie Maier. Awards were given to the first overall male and female finishers, first male and female Long Beach resident finishers, top three finishers from the Long Beach Police Department and top wheelchair finisher.

The race was sponsored by South Nassau Communities Hospital, Bethpage Federal Credit Union and Citibank.
