Photographs by Christina Tisi-Kramer are like none other, so a viewing of her web site's online portfolios is a must. Uniquely crafted, her photography is a blending of her ability to manipulate light and shapes with her extensive technical expertise. Her images literally come to life, whether it's an ocean wave, a portrait or an emerald ring against a dewy vine.

Tisi-Kramer's work spans from commercial to personal. For nine years, prior to opening her own studio in Long Beach and continuing as a freelancer, she was a full-time staff photographer for Macy's. She also worked in the Diamond District doing creative advertising, brochures, business cards, etc.

A graduate of Fashion Institute of Technology, she later attended The School of Visual Arts in New York City, where she was awarded a master's degree in digital photography. For the past six years, she has been an instructor in the Photography Department of Fashion Institute of Technology, where she teaches dark-room techniques, large format photography, and the use of view cameras (the ones with flexible bellows). "Modern day photography needs to be moved from traditional techniques to digital," said Tisi-Kramer.

Taking great pride in her technical skills, Tisi-Kramer says she is able to keep her images true to life by using the best cameras. Her resolution is pin-sharp, and every photograph she takes is for sale. She will personally print on archival paper with pigment inks and put them under glass, so the photograph will last, unfaded, from 80 to 100 years. Images generally are offered up to 17 inches x 22 inches, but she has gone as large as 30 inches x 60 inches. One of her favorite Long Beach scenes was taken jetty to jetty, featuring about 500 people lying on the beach.

Self published, "Visions of Long Beach" is the first full-color coffee table book based on contemporary Long Beach. Eighty vibrant pages are filled with powerful images that capture the scenes of the boardwalk, beaches, ocean waves and the people of Long Beach, NY. The book is leather-bound and stamped in gold, and every photograph was taken within the last five years.

Also featured on her web site is the "Long Beach Book of Postcards." In addition to being available online, either book can be found at Carleton & Dayne (with images displayed there all summer), King's Pharmacy, Kings & Things, and Chapter One Books. For anyone with a connection to Long Beach, or simply someone who enjoys landscape art, "Visions of Long Beach" makes an extraordinary gift.
