Six Lynbrook students earn All-State honors

Lynbrook High School students Emma Harrington, Isaac Polinsky and Matthew DeMichiel have been selected to perform at the 2012 New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) All-State Winter Conference in Rochester, N.Y., held from Nov. 29 through Dec. 2. Emma was chosen for the All-State women’s chorus, Isaac for the string orchestra and Michael for the wind ensemble. All three young musicians will perform at the renowned Eastman Theatre under the direction of nationally prominent conductors. This is the second year in a row that both Emma and Isaac were chosen for this honor. In addition, Zachary Daniels, Chelsea Campanile and Joshua Tierney were selected as alternates to the All-State ensembles.

Thousands of students auditioned for this honor at NYSSMA solo evaluation festivals held across the state last year. These students performed Level 6 music —the most difficult — and received perfect or near-perfect scores.

A six-time All-County musician, Emma is a She is the drum major for the marching band and also performs in the wind ensemble, concert choir and jazz choir. She recently received an Award of Merit from the Long Island Scholar-Artist program.

Matthew is a three-time All-County musician who plays in the wind ensemble, brass ensemble, marching band and jazz band. He is vice president of his school’s chapter of the Tri-M Music Honor Society and is also a member of the National Honor Society.

Isaac, better known as “Ike,” is a four-time All-County musician who performs in the jazz band, jazz choir, wind ensemble, symphonic orchestra and marching band. He is a member of the National Honor Society, the Tri-M Music Honor Society and the varsity soccer team. This past summer, Isaac attended the Stanford Jazz Workshop and the New York State School of Orchestral Studies.

A seven-time All-County musician and two-time All-State alternate, Zachary performs in the wind ensemble, the concert choir and the pit orchestra. He is a member of the National Honor Society and is co-president of his school’s chapter of the Tri-M Music Honor Society. This past summer, Zach participated in a jazz improvisation workshop at NYU Steinhardt and a vibraphone workshop at the University of Delaware.
