Belmont Stakes Celebration

World Of Horses
As the days draw near to that equine quest for glory that is the Belmont Stakes, the fun begins with the annual pre-Stakes event known as the “World of Horses.” The Parade of Breeds opens the day on the main track and features both popular and little-known breeds of horses. Led by the Nassau County mounted unit, the parade features local ‘horsefolk’ and a wide variety of breeds. Exhibitions on the main track follow each race and include the art of reining, demonstrated by Patricia Norton Barbato on Vic’s Royal Jewel and her 9 year old sister Rein America Norton on Chrome's Crackerjack. Grand Prix dressage rider Lorraine Burke is joined by her daughter Kaleigh, 13 in a pas de deux, among other riders demonstrating the best of the sport. The afternoon concludes with an appearance by the Islip Horsemen’s Association’s Spirit of Long Island drill team.
Sunday, May 30, 11:30 a.m. Belmont Park, Hempstead Tpke, Elmont. $3 grandstand, $5 clubhouse.(516) 488-6000 or www.nyra.com.
