The circus is coming back to town. Cole Bros. Circus of the Stars will be setting up its Big Top at Oceanside’s Firemen’s Memorial Field, Monday through Wednesday, July 30-Aug. 1 at 5 and 8 p.m. Animals, daredevil acts and clowns are the focus of the Cole Bros. 2012 edition, which features all the attractions that make this classic circus a favorite summertime tradition on Long island. The troupe, which bills itself as “the oldest American circus performing under the Big Top,” has many crowd-pleasing animal acts, among other assorted thrills.

This year’s show features Asian elephants, Judit and Juergen Nerger’s Splendid Tigers, and Abuhadba’s “Dressed for Success” French Poodles. Daredevil performers include Romania’s Cretu Troupe, with extraordinary springboard gymnastics, and Hair-ial Artists” Wendy and Petya who rise to the heights of the circus tent in poised and polished perfection, suspended by their locks, along with El Pendulo Loco and The Human Cannonball. Also, the comic antics of the Bermudez Troupe will keep everyone laughing, with their clowning around.

Advance tickets are $16 ($21 at the gate), available at GoToTheCircus.com. Tickets can also be purchased at Oceanside Fire Headquarters, 65 Foxhurst Rd., or at the Ticket Wagon at the Sands Shopping Center (July 21-22, July 28-29).
