Curran appointed to Ethics and Guidance Committee

Assemblyman Brian Curran (Lynbrook – 14th A.D.) was appointed by Assembly Minority Leader Brian Kolb to serve as the ranking member on the Guidance and Ethics Committee. Curran, a Lynbrook resident, will also serve on the Aging, Banks, Labor and Veterans’ Affairs committees.

“The culture of corruption that has plagued Albany needs to be fixed.  It was very encouraging to hear Governor Cuomo address ethics reform in his State of the State address,” Curran said. “I look forward to working with the Governor to push for an independent state ethics commission to police the legislative and executive branches; disclosure of lawmakers’ outside clients and income and stronger campaign-finance laws and enforcement. The State Legislature has lost the citizens trust and we need major reform so that honor and integrity can be restored,” said Curran.

Curran said that during his years as Lynbrook’s mayor, he became very involved in aging and veterans’ affairs issues, and looks forward to advocating for these areas in committee. “It is very important that we help out our servicemen and women returning from overseas and get them acclimated back into civilian life,” he said. “We have an obligation to help them find jobs, and make sure they know about the educational opportunities New York offers them. Aging issues are particularly poignant because of the high cost of living on Long Island and the burden of high property taxes and affordable housing.”

In addition to overseeing Guidance and Ethics, the assemblyman will also address issues relating to labor, banking, aging and veterans’ affairs. His first committee meeting was held on January 11.
