St. Patrick’s Day Festivities

Parade Time
From the South Shore to the North Shore, everyone loves a St. Patrick’s Day parade. Now in its 20th year, Rockville Centre’s St. Patrick’s Day parade — on Saturday — brings out South Shore residents for a joyous homage to Irish traditions. The Rockville Centre Parade Committee’s motto “The Parade That Cares and Shares “ reflects its commitment to not just only celebrating the community’s Irish heritage, but giving back. This year, the parade will raise funds for The Tommy Brull Foundation, the Children’s Tumor Foundation and the Ballinasloe Eagles Special Olympics Club. The parade steps off at noon, at the corner of Maple Avenue and North Long Beach Road. On Sunday, the action is in downtown Glen Cove, when the 28th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade dazzles the North Shore with its display of Irish pride. The largest annual parade in Glen Cove and a civic celebration that is eagerly awaited by the region’s Irish community each year, it is known as one of the most colorful in the country, featuring a large number of pipe bands, marching bands and other attractions. All proceeds (beyond parade expenses) are being donated to Hope for the Warriors, the charity designated by this year’s Grand Marshal Paul Long.
Rockville Centre Parade: Saturday, March 19, noon. For more information on the Rockville Centre parade, visit www.rvcstpatrick.com. Glen Cove Parade: Sunday, March 20, 1 p.m. For more information, visit www.glencoveirishparade.org.
