Kids with special needs visited by Easter bunny

Celebrating the joys of Easter was a heart-warming and meaningful experience for some children with special needs at Hempstead town’s Camp ANCHOR Program. Thanks to Supervisor Don Clavin and Members of the town board, along with Butch Yamali, the owner and president of the famous Peter’s Clam Bar in Island Park, a group of young people engaged in a pre-Easter egg hunt, sat on the Easter Bunny’s lap, and received baskets filled with seasonal treats.

Senior Councilwoman Dorothy Goosby, Councilmen Dennis Dunne, Chris Carini, and Tom Muscarella, and Councilwomen Missy Miller and Laura Ryder attended, as well as Town Clerk Kate Murray and Receiver Jeanine Driscoll.

“There are very few things that are as rewarding as the joy on the faces of these young boys and girls during a visit from the Easter Bunny,” said Clavin. “What’s more, the annual Easter egg hunt is a great way to kick off the spring season.”

“I love the special young people of the ANCHOR Program,” said Yamali. “That’s why Peter’s Clam Bar is a proud sponsor of this event, which brings our favorite furry rabbit together with fun-loving children.”

The children who attended the Easter egg hunt and visit with the Easter Bunny had an opportunity to visit with everyone’s favorite furry rabbit. Additionally, the Bunny brought a basketful of fun for every child in the form of treat-filled Easter baskets. The high point of the day for most of the kids, however, was the Easter egg hunt, which featured dozens of kids eagerly hunting for hundreds of candy-filled Easter eggs.

The ANCHOR Program is run by the Town of Hempstead, offering recreation, socialization and a host of life-enhancing activities to young people with special needs. ANCHOR runs year-round programming and is well known for its seaside summer camp.
