Thank you, voters

To The Editor:
I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the residents of the Lynbrook School District for re-electing me to a fourth term on the Board of Education. It’s truly an honor and privilege for me to have the opportunity to continue serving our school district and its students as a member of the Board of Education.
I would like to thank the community for supporting our school district budget, as well as saying yes to the proposals for us to use the capital reserve funds. I’m deeply grateful for our community’s ongoing commitment to insuring excellence in education for our students.

Thank you for placing your confidence in me. I look forward to working in partnership as we continue to fulfill our mission to provide the highest quality education for every student in our school district.

Civil rights, not religious freedom

To the Editor:
President Obama’s coming out in support of gay marriage as a political calculation is late in coming. He should have said it long ago.
Those who oppose gay marriage are entitled to their opinion, but if that opinion is based upon religious dogma, keep it to yourself. America was founded on religious freedom and the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. It is not about being dictated to by that religious dogma.
The government should protect all individuals’ rights as expressed in the 14th Amendment. Freedom to marry has nothing to do with religion. Since some states have chosen to ignore the Constitution, the government should take the next step to protect the rights of any consenting adults to marry. This is about civility and civil rights, not about religious freedom. No one is telling any religious body to marry gay couples, and no religious body should tell gay couples they can’t marry in a court of law.
