A memorable 9/11 service

To the Editor:
On Sept. 11, I was at Memorial Park in East Rockaway with my wife and 9-year-old granddaughter for the memorial services. It was one of the most moving events that I have ever attended.
I lost several friends on September 11, 2001 and had several more friends who lost family on that date. I feel that the service was beautifully done with a great deal of effort by those who were responsible for the program — especially the placing of the flowers at the stones of those who perished that day.
I’m saddened by the fact that rather than praising the many, many beautiful segments of the memorial service, Teddy Sieban chose to point out an oversight that occurred in placing the village’s American flag at half-staff and accusing the mayor and the board of having disregard for such a tragic and painful day (“Board commends residents, businesses,” Oct. 20-26).
Anyone in attendance that evening knows that just the opposite is true — there obviously was a great deal of thought and effort that made for such a moving ceremony. As Teddy matures, he will be able to see the big picture and not focus on the negative.
