New York City detective Kevin Herlihy, 47, of Lynbrook was shot in the arm in Harlem on Tuesday while tracking down a paroled felon.

In a gun battle with police, the suspect, Michael McBride, 52, was shot in the chest and died while trying to flee down a subway station stairwell.

McBride was being sought in connection with shooting his girlfriend's 25-year-old daughter in the head. The woman is in serious condition.

Kevin is doing well, his wife, Adrienne told the Herald, and will be released from the hospital sometime today after the doctors give the go-ahead.

“I’m very happy,” said Adrienne. “Although it had a happy ending, it could have ended very badly.” The couple has three young children.

Later in the afternoon, Kevin Herily met the press at his Lynbrook home after being released from the hospital.

"I'm relieved," he said. "I'm home, I'm alive..I'm gonna see my family."
