Lynbrook police officer awarded

Police Officer Joseph Cosenza of the Lynbrook Police Department was honored recently with the 2010 Town of Hempstead Police Service Award.

The Town recognized law enforcement professionals from the Nassau County Police Department and village police departments within the town at its annual ceremony. The recipients of the award are nominated by their departments for their meritorious duty to the community. Cosenza was honored for his exceptional police work, which included single-handedly making an arrest of an armed individual in a secluded section of Greis Park in Lynbrook.

In another instance, Cosenza, while off duty, spotted a bank robber leaving the scene, called for support on his cell phone and initiated an arrest recovering all stolen currency.
