Students helps soldiers phone home

Posted

Third graders at Lynbrook’s Waverly Park School have been working to make the holidays a little brighter for servicemen and women in Iraq by collecting international phone cards for them to use to call home to family and friends.

To personalize their gifts, students created colorful holiday greeting cards, wishing the soldiers holiday cheer and thanking them for their service to our country.

As part of a districtwide community service program, each grade at all three Lynbrook elementary schools chooses a different cause to adopt. Teachers Jaclyn Miller and Ellen Manning organized this project for their third-grade classes. This project had special meaning to the students, since the cards will be sent to Captain William Hague, who is the nephew of Manning. He will distribute them to the men in his platoon in Iraq.
