The Eagles soar in Lynbrook, East Rockaway

Courts of honor for scouting's finest

Thomas M. Schmitt, son of Michael and Laurie Schmitt, had his Court of Honor Ceremony recently at the Bethany Congregational Church in East Rockaway recently.

Schmitt, 17, is a senior at East Rockaway High School and a member of the National Honor Society, Senior Band, Jazz Ensemble, Yearbook and Robotics. He is also a member of the Cross Country, football and track teams.

Thomas joined Cub Scout Pack 363 in 2000, and crossed over to Boy Scout troop 121 in 2004. He has held many leadership positions within the troops.

For his Eagle project, Thomas gave the gymnasium at Bethany a new makeover, repairing walls and chipped paint.

At the New York Elks Lodge #1, a Court of Honor was held for Thomas Cavanaugh and Alex Lilly, of Troop 332, St. Raymond’s School, East Rockaway.

Thomas’s project was to organize and collect personal toiletries and hygienic supplies to benefit those needy individuals who are served by St. Raymond’s Parish Social Ministry.

Alex helped with the cleaning and renovating of the 322-year-old Grist Mill Museum, located in Memorial Park in East Rockaway.

In honor of the occasion, the Elks Lodge presented them with a framed American flag, a certificate of achievement, and a monetary award.
