Town, county to host forum for Sandy victims

Posted

Residents with questions about how their flood insurance claims were processed after Hurricane Sandy will have a chance to speak with a representative from the Federal Emergency Management Agency about their claim at a community forum held at East Rockaway Village Hall at 7 p.m. on July 21.

FEMA will have a representative on hand at the forum to answer questions about the agency’s new program, which offers National Flood Insurance Program policyholders who have not pursued litigation or received the maximum amount under their policy a chance to have their cases reopened. The program is designed to help those that feel their claim was not handled properly, and to revamp the agency’s claims and appeals procedures.

The forum is hosted by Town Supervisor Kate Murray, Councilmen Anthony J. Santino and Bruce Blakeman and Nassau County Legislator Howard J. Kopel.

““I strongly urge Sandy victims to take part in this informative Town Hall meeting,” Kopel said. “Working with Hempstead Town, we’ve arranged for FEMA to be on hand so that the federal agency can respond directly to neighbors who have questions and concerns about the claims review process.”
