Abrahams, Legislature’s top Dem, running for Congress
(Page 3 of 3)
Kevan Abrahams

He said the Legislature’s unanimous approvals last year of a plan to redevelop Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum and of borrowing to fix the Hurricane Sandy-damaged Bay Park Sewage Treatment Plant were among the proudest achievements of his tenure.
Nevertheless, Abrahams described himself as “frustrated” with the direction of the county and country in the last several decades. “If you have a longstanding history here in this county, you’re frustrated because you’ve seen this county deteriorate over the last 30, 40 years,” Abrahams said. “That’s what my connection is with people. I see the county the same way they do. I think it’s unfortunate that we’ve seen our county and our area and our nation continue to be stagnant.”

The field of potential Republican candidates in the 4th Congressional District includes Bruce Blakeman, a former presiding officer of the County Legislature, and Frank Scaturro, a New Hyde Park attorney. Francis Becker, a county legislator and Lynbrook Republican who, like Scaturro, has previously mounted unsuccessful campaigns for the seat, has not stated publicly whether he is a candidate, though his website indicates he is running.
