Malverne, West Hempstead prepare for Sandy
joc
Christina Daly/Herald
This barber shop in West Hempstead was prepared for Sandy.

No gas, long lines at stations that did have gas, no LIRR trains after 7 p.m., supermarket parking lots filled with worried customers... that was Sunday for many folks in West Hempstead, Malverne and all over the South Shore, the NOrth Shore and, indeed, all over the Northeast, as forecasters warned of havoc as Hurricane Sandy bore down on the area. Store owners and staff in Malverne and West Hempstead did what they could to prepare their properties for the havoc to come. School officials announced there'd be no classes on MOndays and village officials took all actions necessary to prepare for the storm.
