Overcast West Hempstead schools closed

The West Hempstead school district announced on its website Tuesday night that it will be closed on Wednesday, Feb. 5, due to the snow/ice storm predicted for early in the morning. The Malverne school district scheduled a two-hour delay that morning, according to school board Trustee Michael Taylor.
The National Weather Service was calling for a "wintry mix" on Wednesday morning, with a high hear 35 degrees Fahrenheit. Because the temperature was expected to be at or near the freezing mark, icing was expected on the roads. Town of Hempstead and Nassau County officials were urging extreme caution when driving.
